The brain undergoes tremendous change in the first 2 years of life. One of the major changes relates to the formation of myelin within the brains white matter. The formation of myelin in the brain changes the appearance of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Doctors need to know what the brain looks like at different ages in order to help determine what is normal and what is abnormal.
This application shows MRI pictures of the developing brain up to 2 years of age. Using one scroll bar, you can navigate between different brain scans from 0 months of age to 24 months of age. You can then use another scroll bar to navigate between the different slices of the brain. The application uses different planes of the brain (front, side) and commonly used sequences (T1 and T2) that pediatric brain specialists use to examine the brain. Over 2400 images are included with this app.
In summary, this application provides an atlas of normal images that radiologists, pediatricians, neurologists, and other medical professionals can use to look at MRI images.
